Entry Level Police Officer Positions

 
Entry level positions are filled from certified lists established by the Onondaga County Department of Personnel.
 

Lateral Transfer


Lateral transfer candidates must meet all criteria established by New York State Civil Service and the Onondaga County Department of Personnel.

Candidates interested in lateral transfer should send a completed Application for Police Officer (PDF), cover letter and resume to:

Exams


The New York State Department of Civil Service develops all exams for sworn and non-sworn personnel classifications as well as the physical agility examination for police officer candidates, and provides them to the Onondaga County Department of Personnel for local administration.

  • Canvassing and appointments from certified eligibility lists
  • Receiving and processing an application for employment
