Department Forms

Responsible for:

  • Administering and enforcing New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, local zoning laws, flood plain regulations, and sign regulations.
  • Issuing permits for any new construction, alteration, demolition, signs, swimming pools.
  • Carrying out inspections to insure compliance with all applicable codes and laws.
  • Investigating all complaints concerning building code, zoning, or local law violations.
  • Issuing Notice of Violation and Court Appearance tickets when necessary.
  • Processing applications for Zoning Variances, Special Use Permits, Flood Plain Permits, and Accessory Use Permits and submitting same to appropriate boards.
  • Inspecting industrial and commercial sites, day care centers, multiple dwellings, hotels, and places of public assembly for fire safety compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
  • Responding to structure fires and other emergency situations.
  • Responsible for administering flood plain regulations and providing flood zone information.

BUILDING PERMITS:

As a rule, building permits are generally required for remodeling projects that involve structural changes, new construction and/ or demolition.

Permits are also required for in ground or above ground swimming pools, decks, porches and sheds.

Please call the Code Enforcement Office at 637-8619 if you are planning a construction project to obtain additional information as to what might be required.

MOTOR VEHICLES:

The Town of Manlius Zoning Ordinance allows for the parking/storage in the open of ONE unlicensed OPERATIVE motor vehicle.

No inoperative motor vehicles, licensed or unlicensed are allowed to be parked/stored in the open.

PREMISES IDENTIFICATION:

All buildings and homes shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4” high with a minimum stroke of a ½”.

STORMWATER:

In accordance with NYSDEC Phase II SPEDES (State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit requirements for small municipal separate storm sewers (MS4’s), the Town of Manlius is required to develop, implement, and enforce a stormwater management program designed to reduce the discharge of pollutants from the storm sewer system to the maximum extent practicable. Q: What projects do I need a building permit for?
A: Building permits are required for new construction, additions, renovations, alterations, demolitions, decks, pools and sheds greater than 100 square feet. In general, any project that involves structural modifications to a home requires a building permit.

Q: How much does a building permit cost?
A: The cost of a building permit depends on where you're located (village or town) and what you're doing. You can call the Building & Zoning office at 637-8619 to obtain a permit fee for your project.

Q: Where can I obtain a building permit application?
A: Building permit applications can be obtained at the Town Hall, Planning & Development Office, 301 Brooklea Dr, Fayetteville, NY 13066. The office is open 8:30-4:30. Building permit applications for the Village of Minoa must be turned in (and can be obtained) in the Village office.

Q: Can I fax a building permit application?
A: No, building permit applications can not be faxed.

Q: If I'm doing electrical work, do I need an electrical permit?
A: Yes, all electrical work in the Town of Manlius requires an electrical permit.

Q: Where can I obtain an electrical permit?
A: The Town of Manlius administers all electrical permits in the Town of Manlius and the Villages of Fayetteville, Manlius and Minoa. Electrical permit applications may be obtained at the Town Hall, Planning & Development Office, 301 Brooklea Dr, Fayetteville, NY 13066. The office is open 8:30-4:30.
