The Town of Manlius is an active participant in a town-wide Critical Response
Committee (CRC). Established in the fall of 2001, the mission of the CRC is to
coordinate the various emergency services and available resources for a response
within the town of Manlius in the event of an emergency.
Goals of the Critical Response Committee (CRC) include maintaining a coordinated
multi-agency town-wide critical incident response plan; improving communications
between first responders through roundtable discussion and debriefing of local
critical incident responses; planning opportunities for local critical response
training, scenarios, move-ups and table—top exercises; and suggesting improvements
for communications interoperability among first responders.
The CRC has conducted a detailed
Hazard Analysis to assist local officials and
emergency responders in recognizing hazards that could potentially affect our
community. Data from the Hazard Analysis has been used by CRC agencies in
determining planning priorities and in building emergency response plans. All CRC
agency response plans are incorporated into a 400 page Emergency Operations Manual
that is updated periodically and distributed to local officials, first responders,
and school districts.
Informing the public of CRC activities, and helping our citizens and businesses
learn how to protect themselves from hazards has become an important focus of the
Committee. The CRC urges citizens to familiarize themselves with identified local
hazards and to develop and maintain a personal disaster preparedness and
communications plan and disaster supplies kit. Assistance is available through
the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), New York State Emergency
Management Office (SEMO), and the American Red Cross.
