Police - Law Enforcement Accreditation

Police Home

The Town of Manlius Police Department is proud of the fact that that we are one of a handful of law enforcement agencies in New York State that are both nationally and state accredited.

Initially accredited in 1996, by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, the agency has proudly maintained its law enforcement accreditation through several reassessments.

Law enforcement accreditation provides formal recognition that the Department meets or exceeds general expectations of quality in the field and that our policies and procedures are sound and consistent with modern police practices.

Benefits to the Community include:
  • Greater accountability within the agency
  • Better managed department
  • Policies and procedures are in-line with modern professional standards
  • Controlled liability insurance costs
  • Stronger defense against civil lawsuits
  • Increased community advocacy and involvement
  • Requires justification for budget, personnel and equipment resources
  • Policies and procedures are continually updated
  • Community confidence and respect
