Police Officer - Entry Level
All entry level police officer positions within the Town of Manlius Police Department are filled from an eligibility list established by the Onondaga County Department of Personnel as the result of a competitive examination process. Selection from that list is accomplished in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law and the Rules for Classified Service.
Minimum qualifications for appointment are established by the New York State Department of Civil Service. Basic minimum qualifications include:
- High school graduate or equivalent as defined by Civil Service.
- Within minimum and maximum ages as defined by Civil Service.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Valid NYS driver’s license.
- Must meet prescribed physical and medical conditions as stated in the New York State Municipal Police Training Council.
- Must be of good moral character with no conviction of a felony. Conviction of a misdemeanor or other offense, including traffic violation, may bar appointment.
- Must successfully complete a psychological and polygraph examination prior to appointment.

Interested candidates must submit a required non-refundable application fee and form P-200 Application for Open Competitive Examination or Employment to the Onondaga County Department of Personnel.
The examination consists of a written test that you must pass in order to be considered for appointment. Candidates will also be required to successfully complete and pass a physical fitness screening test (physical agility) to assess the ability of the candidate to perform the essential job functions of an entry level Police Officer.
