The Field Services Section, or “Patrol” as it is commonly referred to, is the
largest organizational component within the police department and has primary
responsibility for the first response delivery of police services within the
jurisdiction. The duties and responsibilities of Field Services include:
- Providing continuous 24/7/365 patrol coverage
- Responding to calls for service
- Enforcing all laws
- Conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations
- Interviewing victims and witnesses, and interrogating suspects
- Collecting and preserving physical evidence
- Apprehending offenders and recovering stolen property
- Conducting crime prevention and suppression activities
- Maintaining close liaison with the community
- Problem solving policing
Each patrol shift is commanded by a Watch Supervisor who reports to the
Operations Division Commander.
