The Town of Manlius Police Department is a paramilitary organization that uses a typical hierarchical structure for its routine operations. The department is comprised of two divisions; operations and administrative.
Operations Division
The Operations Division is responsible for providing direct and general police services to the public. These services include, but are not limited to, the:
- Apprehension of offenders
- Identification of criminal offenders and criminal activity
- Protection of constitutional guarantees of all people
- Protection of life and property
- Reduction of opportunities for the commission of crime
- Resolution of conflict
Other Duties
In addition, the Operations Division is primarily responsible for providing continuous:
- School Information Resource Officers (SIRO's)
- Bicycle patrol
- Conducting investigations of all crimes and serious incidents
- Evidence collection and preservation
- Patrol coverage
- Property security
- Traffic operations
Administrative Division
The Administrative Division is responsible for providing support for the effective and efficient operation of the police department. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Community relations
- Crime analysis
- Crime prevention
- Fiscal and property management
- Inventory control
- Juvenile operations
- Law enforcement accreditation
- Personnel
- Planning and research
- Police vehicle maintenance and acquisition
- Public information
- Recruiting
- Special investigations
- Training
