Special Election Notice

A petition was filed with the Town Clerk requiring the Town of Manlius to hold a special election on a proposition asking residents to vote on establishing a ward system. Currently residents vote for 6 town councilors with 4-year terms. A ward system would create 6 wards and residents would vote for only 1 town councilor with a 2-year term.

The special election will be held on September 23, 2023 9AM - 5PM at Manlius Town Hall, 301 Brooklea Drive, Fayetteville, NY. 

All registered voters in the Town of Manlius can vote in this special election. Click here register to vote online. Must be registered to vote by September 11, 2023 to be able to vote in this special election. 

Additional Information

At the August 23rd, 2023 Town Board Meeting, the Manlius Town Board adopted a resolution, as required by NY State Law, establishing a special election to consider the creation of a ward system in response to a petition received on July 14th, 2023. The election will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 at the Manlius Town Hall located at 301 Brooklea Dr. in Fayetteville, NY from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.

The Town Board designated the Onondaga County Board of Election to administer the election. All currently registered voters within the Town of Manlius will be eligible to vote in the election. 

The Town Board will appoint members to the Board of Registration at a special meeting on September 6, 2023 at 6:00 pm. 

A Board of Registration will be appointed to allow for absentee ballots to be requested and to allow residents who are not already registered to register to vote in the special election. The Board of Registration will convene on the following dates and times at the Manlius Town Hall: 

Friday, September 8th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm 

Saturday, September 9th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm 

Monday, September 11th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Absentee Ballot Information

Residents in the Town of Manlius will be able to vote via Absentee Ballot for the Special Election on September 23rd. Please read the below instructions carefully as there are different deadlines for each ballot delivery method. Residents may request an absentee ballot if they are unable to vote in-person for one of the valid reasons as shown on the absentee ballot application:

Absentee Ballot Step by Step Process 

  1. Ensure that you are registered to vote for the special election: 
    1. If you are currently registered to vote with the Onondaga County Board of Elections, you will be automatically enrolled to vote in the special election by the Board of Registration. 
      • Residents can check their registration status HERE
    2. If you are not already registered to vote with the Onondaga County Board of Elections residents must register to vote with the Board of Registration as outlined in the public notice.
  2. Request and complete an absentee ballot application.
  3. Submit absentee ballot application to the Town Clerk by the deadline. Deadlines for absentee ballot applications are based upon how you would like your absentee ballot delivered to you. You may receive your ballot in person at the Town Clerk's Office or have it sent to you by mail. 
  4. Once you have received your absentee ballot, please submit your ballot to the Town Clerk's Office.  All Absentee Ballots must be received by the Town Clerk by mail or in-person by 5 P.M. on September  23rd to be counted. Any Absentee Ballots received in-person or by mail after 5 P.M. on September  23rd will not be counted.

  • EMAIL - To send your absentee ballot application by email, download the absentee ballot form and email the scanned document to aweber@townofmanlius.org
  • REGULAR MAIL - If you'd like to mail in your application,send absentee ballot applications to:

Absentee Ballot Application Deadlines ( Delivery Methods ) 

  • To have an Absentee Ballot delivered to you by mail, absentee ballot applications must be received by the Town Clerk in person, by email or online by Saturday, September 16th. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open on Saturday, September 16th from 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. to receive absentee ballot applications.  
  • To receive an Absentee Ballot in-person at the Town Clerk's Office, absentee ballot applications must be received by the Town Clerk by 4:30 P.M. on September 22nd. Absentee ballots can be picked up in the Town Clerk's Office until 5:00 P.M. on September 22nd based upon eligible applications. Residents may submit applications for in-person pick-up by email, online or at Town Hall. Residents may select a designee to receive the ballot on their behalf at the Town Clerk's Office. 

 Absentee Ballot Submission Deadline

 All Absentee Ballots must be received by the Town Clerk by mail or in-person by 5 P.M. on September  23rd to be counted. Any Absentee Ballots received in-person or by mail after 5 P.M. on September  23rd will not be counted.
